"Never doubt that a thoughtful, dedicated group of people
can change the world. Indeed, this is all that ever has."
-Margaret Mead

C.A.L.V.I.N. & H.O.B.B.E.S.- Creating A Lively Valuable Ingenious New Habit Of Being (at) Bucknell (and) Enjoying Sobriety- was Matt's vision in October, 1993. By 1995, with over 50 formal and 300 informal members, C.A.L.V.I.N. & H.O.B.B.E.S. provided the Bucknell community with social and educational activities to promote fun without the use of drugs and alcohol.

As President of C.A.L.V.I.N. & H.O.B.B.E.S., Matt worked diligently for the group's success.

He encountered bias and resistance to his idea, but in just a few months, it was a successful Bucknell University sanctioned group.

The local media began to take notice.

C.a.l.v.i.n. & H.o.b.b.e.s. House, as it looked in the fall of 1995. A dream come true
for the young group.

At a school known for its "partying" reputation, C.A.L.V.I.N. & H.O.B.B.E.S. offered Bucknell students a chance to hang out and have fun without using drugs or alcohol. As a result of the group's success, and the positive press the University was receiving, the trustees approved over $250,000 to refurbish a former fraternity house to use to host its activities and house for the group to live.

In 1995, U.S. News and World Report heralded the acquisition of the former fraternity house, noting, "How times have changed."

As evidence that the group's foundation was strong, it remains an active part of the campus today. Recently, C&H celebrated its 15th birthday.

In 1999, the group moved from uphill side of campus, to an even more comfortable home on the downhill side of campus. The group now enjoys such ammenities as full service kitchen and a pool table.

As a result of former C&H president Tim Horne, the group's publicity and some of Matt's presentations, several "sibling organizations" were formed at colleges around the country. As of 2008, the list included: PEANUTS, The College of NJ (1996); Thundercats, Villanova University (1998); Pomona College (2000); R.E.A.L., CHANCE, Rutgers University (2003); R.E.A.L., Montclair State University (2005), P.U.L.S.E., William Paterson University (2007), Simpsons, Stockton State Univ. (1998- No longer active); W.H.A.T., St. Louis Univ. (1995- No longer active).
